Mutual Fund Returns Calculator

Project future mutual fund returns or calculate actual returns from your purchase NAV and current value. Supports lumpsum, SIP, or both.

How the mutual fund returns calculator works

Projection mode: The calculator compounds your lumpsum at the expected annual rate for the full period. Each SIP contribution is added at month-end and grows at the same rate until maturity. Future value = lumpsum × (1 + r)^t + SIP × [((1 + r)^n - 1) × (1 + r)] / r, where r is the monthly rate and n is the number of months.

NAV-based returns: Absolute return = (current value - invested) / invested × 100. CAGR = ((current / invested)^(1/years) - 1) × 100. These formulas measure historical performance, not future results.

Understanding mutual fund returns and how the calculator helps

Mutual funds pool money from many investors and invest in stocks, bonds or other securities. Returns depend on the performance of the underlying assets. Equity funds tend to be more volatile but can deliver higher long-term returns; debt funds are typically more stable with lower returns. The mutual fund returns calculator helps you plan new investments or evaluate existing ones.

In projection mode, you enter an initial lumpsum (if any), a monthly SIP amount, an expected annual return and the investment horizon in years. The tool shows the projected future value, total amount invested and total gain. This helps you answer questions like: "If I invest ₹50,000 today and ₹5,000 every month at 10% return for 15 years, how much might I get?" You can try different rates and tenures to see how sensitive the result is to your assumptions.

In NAV-based mode, you enter the amount you invested, the NAV at which you bought, the current value of your holding and the holding period in years. The calculator computes the absolute return (total gain as a percentage) and the CAGR (compound annual growth rate). CAGR is useful for comparing performance across different holding periods. For example, a 50% absolute return over 5 years is roughly 8.45% CAGR, while the same 50% over 3 years is about 14.5% CAGR.

The calculator does not account for taxes (e.g. capital gains tax on equity or debt funds), exit loads, or expense ratios. These can reduce your actual returns. Use the tool as a planning baseline. Past performance of a fund does not guarantee future results. Read the scheme information document and consider consulting a qualified financial adviser before investing.

Whether you are planning a new mutual fund investment or reviewing an existing one, this calculator runs in your browser and does not store your data. You can experiment with multiple scenarios without signing up or sharing any personal information.
