The standard tip percentage varies by context. For sit-down restaurants in the US, 15–20% is typical. Some diners use 15% for adequate service, 18% for good service, and 20% or more for excellent service. Fast casual and counter service often suggest lower amounts (10–15%) or round up. Delivery drivers usually receive 10–15% of the order total, with a minimum of a few dollars for short trips. Ride-share and taxi drivers often get 15–20%. Splitting the bill is common when dining in groups. The tip calculator can divide both the tip and the total evenly among the number of people you specify. If everyone pays an equal share, each person pays their portion of the total (bill + tip) ÷ number of people. If you prefer to split only the bill and leave one combined tip, calculate the total tip first, then manually divide the bill portion. Some restaurants add a mandatory service charge for large groups (e.g. 18% for parties of six or more). In that case, an additional tip may be optional or reduced.
