In IVF, the embryo transfer date is known precisely, unlike natural conception where ovulation timing is estimated. To align with standard obstetric dating (LMP + 280 days), clinicians add a fixed number of days to the transfer date. For Day 3 (cleavage-stage) embryos, 263 days is added; for Day 5 (blastocyst) embryos, 261 days. This produces a due date consistent with pregnancies conceived naturally.
