Cement Calculator – Bags Needed for Concrete

Free cement calculator: enter concrete volume in cubic yards and mix ratio to estimate how many 94 lb cement bags you need. Use with our concrete calculator for slabs and footings. No sign-up, runs in your browser.

Cement Calculator

Estimate 94 lb cement bags needed for concrete volume. Enter volume in cubic yards and bags per cubic yard (typically 5–6).

How the cement calculator works

bags = ceil(volume_cubic_yards × mix_ratio)

Mix ratio is the number of 94 lb cement bags per cubic yard. Typical values are 5–7. Use the concrete calculator to get volume from length, width and depth first.

Estimating cement for concrete projects

Cement is the binding agent in concrete. To estimate how many bags you need, first calculate the volume of concrete required using our concrete calculator. Enter the length, width and depth of your slab or footing in feet; the tool gives volume in cubic feet and cubic yards. Then use this cement calculator with that volume (in cubic yards) and your chosen mix ratio.

The mix ratio—bags of cement per cubic yard—varies by strength and application. A 6-bag mix is common for driveways, patios and footings. Higher ratios (7+ bags) yield stronger concrete for structural work. Lower ratios (5 bags) may be used for non-structural fill. Always round up to whole bags; partial bags are not sold.

This calculator provides an estimate only. Actual cement requirements depend on the specific mix design, aggregate moisture, and job conditions. For large or critical projects, consult a structural engineer or concrete supplier. Use our volume calculator for odd shapes and our area calculator for surface measurements.
