Mean, Median, Mode Calculator

Enter numbers separated by commas or spaces to compute mean, median, mode, min, and max.

How mean, median, and mode are calculated

Mean = sum of all values รท count. Median = middle value when sorted (or average of the two middle values for even count). Mode = value(s) with highest frequency. The calculator sorts your data and computes all three measures.

When to use mean, median, and mode

Mean, median, and mode are the three main measures of central tendency in statistics. The mean is the arithmetic average and works well for symmetric data. The median is the middle value and is preferred when data has outliers or is skewed. The mode is the most frequent value and is useful for categorical or discrete data.

For example, household income is often reported as median rather than mean because a few very high earners would skew the mean upward. Test scores might use the mean. Shoe sizes might use the mode. Use this calculator to quickly compute all three from any list of numbers. For spread (variance, standard deviation), use our variance or standard deviation calculator.
