Time Card Calculator

Calculate work hours with break deduction and optional overtime pay. Enter clock in/out times, break minutes, and hourly rate for each day.

How the time card calculator works

For each session: Work minutes = (Clock out โˆ’ Clock in) โˆ’ Break minutes. Total hours = sum of all sessions รท 60. Regular hours = min (total, threshold). Overtime hours = max (0, total โˆ’ threshold). Regular pay = regular hours ร— rate. Overtime pay = overtime hours ร— rate ร— multiplier.

Break time is subtracted from each session before summing. Enter break minutes per day (e.g. 60 for a one-hour lunch).

Tracking work hours and overtime

Whether you are paid hourly, track time for billing, or need to verify your paycheck, a time card calculator helps you add up work hours accurately. Enter your clock in and clock out times for each day, subtract break time, and the calculator gives you total hours. If you add an hourly rate, it also computes regular and overtime pay based on your threshold and multiplier.

Overtime rules vary. In the US, the Fair Labor Standards Act typically requires time-and-a-half (1.5ร—) for hours over 40 per week. Some employers use a daily threshold (e.g. over 8 hours per day). This calculator lets you set both the threshold and the multiplier. Use 8 for regular hours per day if that matches your policy, or 40 for a weekly total if you enter all days in one go. The overtime multiplier is often 1.5; some contracts use double time (2.0) for certain hours.

Break time is usually unpaid. A 30-minute or 1-hour lunch is common. Enter your break in minutes for each day; the calculator subtracts it from the time between clock in and clock out. This gives you net work hours. The result is an estimate; your employer's payroll system may use different rounding or rules. Use this tool to double-check your hours and pay, or to plan shifts. For simple time addition without pay, use our work hours calculator. For overtime-only calculations with a fixed rate, use the overtime calculator.
