How unit conversion works
Each category uses a base unit (e.g. meter for length, kilogram for mass, Celsius for temperature). Values are converted to the base unit then to the target unit. For example, length: 1 in = 0.0254 m (exact); 1 cm = 0.01 m. So 100 cm = 1 m = 1/0.0254 in ≈ 39.37 in. Temperature uses formulas: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32; K = °C + 273.15.
